The Founder, Brad Carnahan, attended Indiana State University as a Music Education major, and after moving to California, decided to fulfill his dream, to revive the sounds of the Big Bands. Brad founded The Great American Swing Band in November of 1980, and performed the band publicly in a concert at Balboa Park Pavillion in San Diego where they received a standing ovation for their performance, and from there took the band onward to perform at clubs in and surrounding L.A. where many "Big Band" legends had performed before. Brad directed the band for approximately 5 years and after a brief hiatus became the band's business manager and trombonist. Following Brad's tenure as director, the baton was transferred to a highly qualified, multi-talented musician extraordinaire, Ms. Jodi Gladstone.
